LESOTHO CHAIRS SADC DEFENCE INSPECTORATE
The Chief of Human Resource and Admin Major General (Maj Gen) ’Matumelo Ramoqopo officially opened the 19th Annual General Meeting of the SADC Defence Inspectorate Working Group (SADC DIWG) at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre on the 29th July 2025.
The primary aim of this meeting was to ensure accountability and integrity in military operations and regional defence cooperation as well as the handing over of SADC DWIG Chairmanship to the LDF Inspector General. The chairmanship circulates amongst the member countries annually and this year the Democratic Republic of Congo will hand over the chairmanship to the Lesotho Defence Force Inspector General.
In her remarks, Maj Gen Ramoqopo appreciated the outgoing Chairpersons for their distinguished leadership and institutional stewardship. She further said the meeting validates systems, reviews performance, assesses risks and above all ensures that the military remains a trusted instrument of the state.
“Your Collective contributions sustain the operational and Strategic Relevance of this Working Group, and we acknowledge your efforts with great respect,” stated Maj Gen Ramoqopo. Maj Gen Ramoqopo carried on to state that defence capability is not measured only in terms of fire power or force structure but also in terms of credibility, compliance and Command discipline.
Maj Gen Ramopopo concluded her remarks by urging all delegates to engage constructively, share openly, and commit to practical outcomes.
